Spectacular news! The Book of the Unnamed Midwife is the book of the month on r/books! If you’re not familiar, Reddit is a site that helps people gather and discuss common interests, like books or finding a bra that fits. This month, there will be a group to read along with, and people who will want to talk about it.

I’m a long-time Reddit lover. I’m very excited to have my book there and hear what people think about it. If you’re interested in joining the conversation, creating an account is free and connects you to a wealth of dank memes and fascinating threads. (And also the usual complement of internet craziness and darkness.)

If you’re looking to get a copy of the book, I’ve recently learned that it’s in about 300 libraries in the U.S., and your librarian can order or borrow it for you through the inter-library loan program if they don’t have it. It’s also available in audio format, and was recently nominated for an Audie Award, thanks to brilliant narrator Angela Dawe.

It’s much more fun to talk about Midwife now that Etta is out there. Looking forward to doing just that on Reddit! I’ll be doing a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on March 30th, so join me if you can!

  1. Hi, I’ve just read your novel ‘The Book of the Unnamed Midwife’. Thank you for writing it, it was fabulous. Well plotted, great characters and an overwhelming poignancy. It felt as though I was reading another member of a family of books(‘A Gift Upon the Shore’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and ‘ ‘Dreamsnake’); although the book in front of you is a stranger, you can see some features in the face they might share and you know you’re going to come to treasure it as much as the rest of the family. Definitely a future old friend to be reread again and again.
