V.E. Schwab recently said, “Publishing is one of those surreal industries where you work on things coming out years from now, while promoting things coming out in months, and keeping energy up for things that came out years ago.” She’s been doing it longer than I have, but from what I can tell that is exactly how it is.
I’ve been telling people SOON when they ask about Flora. It’ll be done SOON, it’ll be edited SOON, I’ll have a release date and a cover soon.
Some of soon is today. The book is done, expertly edited, and with my publisher. We’ll have a cover… well, soon. But I have a release date today.
The Book of Flora will be released on April 23, 2019.
If you want a little taste of it before then, I did the first-ever reading from Flora at SF in SF last month, and you can listen to it here. The picture above was taken that night, and the man on my left is SF in SF host and science fiction legend Terry Bisson. I have looked up to him since I was very young, and reading my book in front of him was an electrifying experience.
For those of you who have been waiting patiently and asking me kindly and reminding me that there are people out there who want to know how the whole thing ends: THANK YOU. Your attention to my work contributes every day to my living my dream life. Thank you for reading, thank you for waiting, thank you for asking. I’ll have all the answers for you soon.
So excited there is a publication date for The Book of Flora. Already thinking of rereading the Unnamed Midwife and the Book of Etta. A good book always needs a second reading for any missed detail and for the sheer enjoyment.
Thank you! I love being re-read!
